Mindfulness is the state of being achieved by focusing one's awareness on present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts,  and bodily sensations. It is used as a therapeutic technique and is helpful in dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, mental illness, and daily general well-being.

I am working as an intern at a substance abuse agency and am working primarily with adolescents ages 12-18. The agency is a dual mental health and substance abuse agency so we can provide comprehensive care to all of our clients. I strive to learn more about mindfulness and applying those techniques to my site. I see struggles with depression, anxiety, anger, ADHD, substance abuse, eating disorders, and stress, and aim to apply mindfulness strategies to work with these issues, while also gleaning a greater understanding of those issues themselves.
